This 3 day First Aid at Work course is delivered using a 'hands-on, practical approach, combined with tutor presentations to give delegates the best opportunity of mastering the practicalities of first aid treatment.

Course Description

All first aid courses are delivered in a classroom setting, this course offers a practical, hands-on approach that delivers the skills and confidence to use first aid skills in a real-life situation in which our courses meet the HSE’s criteria for what is expected of training providers

To ensure you get the most effective learning experience, learners must be physically able to participate and we limit group size to 12 people.

Each learner receives a training pack including a host of resources to help them practice the skills covered. The pack includes a course companion workbook.

The HSE requires 18 contact hours for this course. Learners must attend all sessions to be eligible for assessment, which is done by continuous observation and questioning during the course.

On successful completion of this course, you will receive the first aid at work certificate which is valid for three years by the Worksafe. This course meets the requirements specified by the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

  • Understand the role of the first aider, including reference to the importance of preventing cross-infection
  • The need for recording incidents and actions
  • Use of available equipment
  • Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure)
  • Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Train in the use of an AED
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking, wounded and bleeding or suffering from shock
  • Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, graze, bruises, small splinters)
  • Recognize the presence of major illnesses (including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes) and provide appropriate first aid
  • Administer first aid to a casualty with injuries to bones, muscles, and joints, including suspected spinal injuries; chest injuries; burns and scalds; eye injuries; sudden poisoning, anaphylactic shock, and major wounds.
